Introduction
本研討會原「海峽兩岸海洋環境監測及預報技術研討會」，由廈門大學洪華生教授、中央大學劉康克教授、成功大學高家俊教授發起，針對台灣海峽及週邊海域之環境監測和預報技術議題進行學術討論。本會之目的在於“提升海岸及海洋環境監測及預報技術的研究和應用能力，維護台灣海峽及海岸地區安全，造福人民”。本研討會特別著重在促進大學院校研究單位、公部門業務單位與私部門產業界的交流與合作。本會議由兩岸輪流主辦，是海峽兩岸針對海洋防災科技交流最重要的平台之一。
The workshop was initiated together by Prof. H. Hong of Xiamen University, Prof. K.-K Liu from National Central University, Taiwan and Prof. C.-C. Kao from National Cheng Kung University in 2009. The aims of this workshop are to enhance the coastal environmental monitoring and forecasting technology research and to improve the capability to mitigate the marine hazards of the Taiwan Strait and sounding waters. Efforts are especially made on promoting the dialogue and cooperation between university & research institutions, public sector operational units and industries in private sector.The first workshop of the series was held in October 2009 in Xiamen, followed in Zhongli, Xiamen, Keelung, Kinmen, Xiamen and Pingtan for already six rounds. It is now becoming the most important platform for the cross-strait exchanges on marine environmental disaster mitigation. The influences of marine disaster are borderless. In the 7th workshop this year, the scale is expanded by inviting more experts from Southeast Asian countries and regions with the hope to contribute to the regional cooperation.
